This one-ok-a-kind orb is a feat of goldsmithing. Hand-raised from flat sheet with individually placed granulation, the orb has a satisfying feel when worn. Part of our Orb Study, this orb can be worn with our Midgard Serpet Chain or Midgard Serpent Earrrings either paired with other orbs or alone. Named for the archaeological finds at Wakefiled, UK, the orb celebrates ancient goldsmithing techniques.
An ancient goldsmithing technique where tiny spheres of gold are hand placed on a jewel to form textures or patterns. Granulation dates back at least 5,000 years to the Sumerians and has been found in cultures all over the world including in Greek, Etruscan, and Viking jewelry. Once the spheres are placed, the final step requires fusing the balls to the surface, a tricky process that can result in failure of the entire piece. Loren Teetelli has mastered the notoriously difficult technique, and her granulation designs have a rich, silken texture.
