Variscite Water Drop Post Earrings
The pale green variscite panels in the Water Drop Post Earrings evoke the churning of water and seafoam. Variscite, sometimes called Utahlite or variquoise, is an unusual stone that resembles turquoise with a greener hue. This pair, from a small mine in Nevada, displays a beautiful pale green color. They are set in a handmade 22-karat gold bezel accented with large gold granules inspired by the elaborate ear ornaments created by the Moche people of Northern Peru. This ancient Andean civilization had an extraordinary culture of craft and metalwork. Their ear ornaments often featured an edge composed of oversized spheres, reimagined here for modern wear. In a subtle detail, the panels are suspended from the green tourmaline posts by a gold hoop threaded through one of the granules, allowing for movement and balance. The green of the tourmaline draws out the same tone in the variscite. This is a remarkable one-of-a-kind earring that draws the eye and exudes calm.
