Ancient Greek Agate Grasshopper Pendant
$9,000
A one-of-a-kind pendant created from an ancient Greek carved agate grasshopper (c. 300-200 BCE). In ancient Greece the grasshopper was a symbol of the polis, the people, of Athens. In his History of the Peloponnesian War, Thucydides wrote how the people of Athens fastened their hair with golden grasshopper pins. We suspended the amulet from a 22-karat gold bail.
