Variscite Mochica Drop Earring
Extraordinary 22-karat gold fan-shaped earrings that feature variscite cabochons. The form is inspired by the fan-shaped earrings found in South America and by the elaborate ear ornaments created by the Moche people of Northern Peru. This ancient Andean civilization had an extraordinary culture of craft and metalwork. Their ear ornaments often featured an edge composed of oversized spheres, reimagined here for modern wear. Variscite, sometimes called Utahlite or variquoise, is an unusual stone that resembles turquoise with a greener hue. This pair, from a small mine in Nevada, displays a beautiful pale green color.
